The small business expert writes that powerful packaging has a clear message – what the product does should be easily discernible. When working on the design, entrepreneurs should determine whether some information can be shown as opposed to written out in print, Boublil writes. Customers will remember the format of the container and the feel of the product, so carefully consider the shape and texture.
The product design should correlate to the overall branding. This can be established with a well-defined color code or nomenclature. Each product should be able to stand alone, but also sit within a larger brand family.
Innovation is always essential to staying ahead of the competition. However, don’t only focus on creating something new, focus on increasing functionality as well. It is important to consider how the packaging will impact the Earth. Can it be reused or recycled? Create a design that reduces waste and can quickly communicate the brand message.
