The June 11 deadline for entrepreneurs to enter the MassChallenge startup competition is fast approaching, with at least a dozen cash awards of $50,000 or more at stake.
The Challenge’s website says it is the world’s largest annual startup competition, which works to put entrepreneurs with high-growth ideas on the fast track to forming a company.
“MassChallenge is a collaborative effort involving dozens of organizations all committed to igniting a global startup renaissance and helping entrepreneurs win,” said John Harthorne, CEO and co-founder of MassChallenge. “The results of our competition will be immediate and far-reaching.”
Any company worldwide – including nonprofits – with less than $500,000 in investments and $1 million in annual revenue is eligible.
Entrants in the competition will receive networking support and training from partner organizations. After initial judging, 100 finalists will receive free office space in Boston, one-on-one mentoring from industry experts and introductions to potential customers and future funding sources.
Some interesting proposals have already been entered. Xconomy.com says that three students from Massachusetts-based Clark College are entering their idea from a class project – creating allergen-free food products – into a possible business venture.
The final winners will be announced in October.
