Crafting email subject lines is critical to the success of email marketing, and following a few simple tips will help assure entrepreneurs forming an LLC that the messages are opened and read by potential customers.
A good email subject line is like a newspaper headline, and if it uses the "Four U Approach," it will be successful, writes Copyblogger founder Brian Clark. Subject lines should be "Useful, Ultra-specific, Unique and Urgent" in order to avoid being sent to the spam box, he says.
Clark recommends a few points to remember when using the Four U Approach.
First, including the "Useful" and "Ultra-specific" details are always necessary – even if it means ignoring the unique and urgent aspects.
"There are plenty of others who work at unique and urgent with every subject line – we call them spammers," Clark writes. "Don’t cross the line into subject lines that are perceived as garbage. But do throw in a bit of a tease."
He says email subject lines should also identify the business so the recipient knows the messages are from a trusted source.
MessageLabs Intelligence reported that in August 2010, the U.S. was the source of the most spam emails, accounting for more than 10 percent. India was second at 6.8 percent.
