The national unemployment rate lingers at 9.7 percent, and many experts say small businesses will be the leaders in driving job generation. The Small Business Administration reports that SMBs have created 64 percent of net new jobs over the past 15 years.
With this in mind, some states are giving their small business communities ample resources to start businesses and help recover local economies.
Alabama’s Waff.com reports that state officials have recently unveiled plans for an "entrepreneurial roadmap" that will promote business incorporation in the area. The roadmap will bring together aspiring entrepreneurs and seasoned small business owners in a series of lectures.
Accomplished local business owners will offer prospective business owners insight on startups, from finding funds to writing successful business plans, reports Waff.com.
The roadmap is a joint project of the University of Alabama, the business advocacy group the Committee of 100 and other organizations. Chair of the Committee of 100, Donna Lamb, told the source the roadmap will give special attention to technological startups as officials think these businesses offer the most potential gains.
The Silicon Valley Leadership Group reports that more than 300 U.S.-based technology firms are planning on making new hires this year. Thus, entrepreneurs in Alabama and across the nation might find they are positioned to contribute new jobs to the economy by forming a company in the tech industries.
